Chinese Generations through the Lens of Technology

As design researchers, we often examine social categorizations– personas, life stages, generations, etc– to understand how commonalities across target populations can impact the way businesses interact with or cater to their customer base. In this piece, I examine the four main generation groups (Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Generation Y) as they apply to the Chinese population with reference to their use of technology.

Designing for China’s State of Mind

During my recent visit to China, along with the terrible quality of air, I also could not ignore the time wasted in traffic at any time of day in Beijing. But it was neither the number of cars nor the quality of the roads that cause congestion– in fact, most of the city’s roads are in better shape than those in the Bay Area. It’s the imprudent drivers who created the chaos.
