Designing for Emerging Markets?


SonicRim Principal Uday Dandavate is one of the organizers and a speaker at the international conference “design with India” to be held in New Delhi, India on December 4th and 5th, 2006.

Design has a major role to play in continually exploring ways of preserving the cultural expression and experience around the world. While global businesses go about breaking down the walls and distances that separate us, designers have the opportunity to save the world from homogenization. This Design Summit is a platform for designers to work together with industry to make a better tomorrow.

The objective of the 6th edition of the CII-NID Design Summit is to address how the unique culture, behaviors and aspirations of people from India will influence the field of design and innovation in the future. This conference will help global audiences appreciate the opportunities and challenges of design and innovation with Indian companies, professionals and consumers.

The Design Summit is an annual platform for promoting design in industry organized by the CII and the NID, with support from the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. The summit aims to bring together eminent scholars, practitioners, educators and users from the areas of design and innovation so the development of indigenous designs and innovations in the country can gain momentum.

This year’s theme, Design with India, will showcase India’s strength in design and reflect stellar examples of work being done around the world. The summit will provide a window to new ideas and best practices with an aim to strengthen the global design scenario.
